Right.., everyone is talking how beautifully is Lura, but no one is daring to go. I'm a ethnic Albanian my self, born and raised in Diber region. Knowing from my father and my uncle stories how beautiful is Lura, made me do some research in Internet. I was very disappointed from the results...there was NO information about Luras Lakes, not even a single picture!
How come!
So I reserved my tickets for Albania and summer of 2007 I was in front of the lakes up, up, up in the mounties. Oh my God !!!, the best experience in traveling!
After I came back to New York, I decide to do this small website for the rest of you who are interested to go there... feel free to ask me for any questions.
I will not wait for the government to promote my country, I will do it myself... because it's my country!

Lura with its 7 glacial lakes are famous for their natural beauty. Lura mountain climbs up to a height 1600 - 1700 metres with magnificent beech trees and higher up conifers. The highest point, a bare peak called 'Kurora e Lures' (Lura's Crown) rises to 2112 metres, but most visitors will prefer to confine themselves to visiting the lakes which occupy glacial cirques at heights of between 1200 - 1500 metres or at best the four principle lakes, the 'Leqeni i Madh' (Great Lake), 'Leqeni i zi' (Black Lake), 'Leqeni i luleve' (Lake of Flowers), and 'Liqeni i Lopeve' (Cows' Lake). With a surface of 1.280 hectares it is situated in the eastern side of the mountain massive of Kunora e Lures. Its 14 icy lakes offer picturesque and attractive environments at an altitude of 1.350-1.720 m. Among the many lakes the one that stand out are the Big Lake 32 hectares, Lake of Pines 13 hectares, Black Lake 8 hectares and Lake of Flowers 4 hectares. In winter these lakes freeze. In the southern part of the park there is a meadow called Field of Mares which offers a relaxing view, since its vegetation is miscellaneous with multi-color flowers and full of coniferous trees. This park offers various possibilities for developing eco-tourism, winter sports, equitation, horse riding etc.
